Clinical Supervision & Mental Health Counseling

in Washington State

Hello!

I'm Katie Olvera.

I've been working in the Bellingham community for over 10 years in various roles — as a counselor, educator, advocate, and mentor.

After graduating with my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2012, I worked in survivor advocacy at Western Washington University as the Violence Prevention Specialist. In 2016, I decided to open a private practice to have more autonomy in my work. Simultaneously, I started as a non-tenure-track faculty member in Western's Psychology Department and have been teaching ever since.

More recently, I began offering clinical supervision to pre-licensed counselors in WA State. Helping new clinicians grow their practice and their confidence has become an energizing part of my career. I am also a co-founder of Coastline Counseling Association, which guides fully licensed clinicians into private practice.

Additionally, I provide trainings and workshops to agencies seeking to learn how to be more "trauma-informed" in various ways. I have presented at multiple conferences with audiences ranging from Superior Court Judges to Victim Advocates. I have also contributed as an expert witness - testifying in court and writing opinion reports to help juries understand the impacts of trauma and the dynamics of interpersonal violence.

Equity & Inclusion
I feel that it's important to explicitly name that I am committed to creating a space that is respectful, inclusive, and affirming of all identities. I welcome individuals of all races, cultures, ethnicities, religions, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities, body shapes/sizes, and backgrounds.

I strive to practice with cultural humility, engage in ongoing self-reflection, and continue learning in order to provide competent and compassionate care, especially as a person who holds multiple privileged identities. I stand in active allyship with people of marginalized groups and am dedicated to offering a safe, nonjudgmental environment for all individuals. I recognize the impact of systemic inequities on mental health and aim to ensure that every person I work with feels seen, valued, and supported.
